Oil Change

Just changed the engine oil on my boat; surprised I didn't think of it earlier!
Now I want to change the transmission oil: my question: does it take the same oil as the engine?
Cannot find my manual, but this is an easy question you good people out there can help with.
If not the same oil, which one should I use?

Need to know which tranny you have. On my old 2QM20 the manual stated that 30w oil should be used, same as the engine. Then some years ago there was a thread that stated that Yanmar revised that to recommend ATF(automatic transmission fluid). You can ask the question of Torresen either by phone or their Q&A.

I used 30W oil for the six years before I upgraded to the 3YM30. I never had a shifting problem.

Jorge.. if the motor number is 2QM20H.. then it should use ATF. If the number does not end in "H" then it uses same oil as the engine.

Also, the nameplate on the transmission that is mated to your Yanmar engine should specify the recommended lubricant for the transmission.

Here is a photo of the nameplate for the transmission that is bolted to my 2QM20 ... but best you verify the nameplate on your own boat.
