own a 1993 h33.5 taking it from home port to florida. sail offshore day trips, so want to ask if others have traveled this route 10 plus miles out and how did boat respond?

33.5

I have never made that trip but I do own a 33.5 and wouldn't hesitate to make the trip. I would pick my weather, though.

Go for it!

Know of one that was brought from S.E. coast of Fla. around to Tampa and then Tampa to Mobile the "direct way", meaning off-shore of the "big bend" of Fla. That entails being many, many miles out. Also, there are older 34's that cruise the Bahamas regularly.

The Boat Can Do It

I made a trip in my '93 H 33.5 from Marathron Key to Tampa Bay and then from Tampa Bay to Mobile Bay direct. During that second leg we were about 130 miles off shore. I have just two suggestions: (1) be careful of the weather (if in doubt stay until the weather improves) (2) get a GPS if you don't have one.

I haven't taken her yet...

but I know my 33.5 has been to the Bahamas and we're planning on going in May [If I don't spend too much more time on the Cruising World BBS that is :^) ]!

Offshore in 33.5

I have a 94 model 33.5. Have been offshore in the Gulf of Mexico with 10-12 ft seas. Boat was fine, but found it challenging to spend much time down below.... I wouldn't hesitate , pick your weather. I've never taken it more than 25 miles offshore, but the water should be the same. Rear berth can be used if your on a starboard tack. Long Port Sette if your on a Port tack. V-berth resembles spin cycle in a dryer if its rough. I'm thinking of installing a fresh water tank gauge as I'm not really sure how long the water will last on a longer trip. Think the tank is like 50-55 gallons.

I would hope so

I would think that it would not be a problem. People take 25-26 boats like the macgregor to the bahamas from Fl all the time. heavon forbid that a Hunter 33 cant handle a little off shore time.

Nivritti, Haven't you been to the Cruising World..

BBS? According to them anyone going offshore in a Hunter is doomed!
