I just noticed this on the way home tonight.

The port spreader seems to be a bit 'downward' as compared to the other side and the rest of the boats in the yard.

The mast was restepped last spring and I never noticed it until today.

The pictures don't quite do the off angle justice, but I guess I'd like to know.

Is this a problem? Should I try to fix it? I figure the only way is to loosen the port main shroud, put a ladder up and then push the spreader back into an upward position...

Thanks for any thoughts!
Chris

....ONLY ONE MORE MONTH!!!!!!!! ... I can't believe spring is here. It was 77 today, WAY out of the norm for this area.

If you have the replacement type aluminum spreaders then it may not be a big deal to shimmy up the mast & adjust the angle. But If they are the original wooden spreaders like mine, then it may be a warning sign to check it out & correct before you go out sailing. If you had the mast down then I'm sure you were able to thoroughly inspect the spreaders & socket connections. But rigging always takes a bit of a beating when raising & setting a mast. Check it out & thoroughly inspect, as its better safe then sorry.

They are the aluminum spreaders, and I figure I can send my wife up and push the spreader back into place...Everything was fine last year, I examined the spreaders, and retaped the boots and there was nothing out of the ordinary.

I know that sounds so bad, but there is no way she's tugging my lard butt up there!!!

I hear ya. In this case, it would be less cushion for the pushin (up the mast) that is. LOL!
ps. Thanks for link on the water pump. I'm surprised that anyone stills sells that Lube cup. I noticed that the cup threaded end is steel, and since the pump is brass, there was dielectric corrosion occurring, I recon. Hopefully there's still some metal left in the pump threaded end. I was relunctant to mess with it and watch it descintegrate in my hands.

When I disconnected the cup, there was a bit of corrosion, but nothing to worry about, I'm sure it was the original unit with the boat (1977), so my bet would be that a coating of neverseize periodically would be fine for a new one...
