odorless holding tanks?

Does anybody know which works best(i.e. is less stinky): introduce
bacteria into holding tank that compost the waste (i.e. KO) or
treat holding tank with chemicals that prevent any bacteria from
living in it? Would appreciate advice.

Also I have a Lectra-San to give away free if you pick up the
shipping cost. It works but draws too much power.

According to Peggie hall, who carved a niche as an expert on marine
sanitation, ( http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/phall.htm ) sufficient
oxygen is
the key to eliminating odor. Anaerobic bacteria, which lives without oxygen,
is what creates odor, aerobic bacteria needs oxygen to survive, is does not
make the smelly methane gas and will take take over a tank if there is
enough air flow.

Her explanation as well as a pretty complete description of marine waste
treatment can be read on the site listed. She cautions against chemicals.

Dear Celson,

In the Netherlands its not yet necessary to use holding tanks. We use the
toilet facilities in the ports as much as possible.

If it is still available, I would be interested in your Lectra San unit. Would you still have the operating/installation instructions?

Thanks in advance.
