Terrible Easter Weather

Weather in eastern NC was terrible over Easter week. The week before it was in the 70's and low 80's. Admiral was leaving the country for Easter week and I was gonna spend the week sailing. She left on good Friday and on Saturday morning I went to the boat and encountered snow flurry's, YUK. Pamlico River runs west to east emptying in the Pamlico sound and when we have a lot of west wind it blows the water out of the river. Long story short, cold, wind out of the west, boat sitting on the bottom, and rainy all week culminating on Saturday and Sunday with the beginnings of the Northeaster our northern brethern had to deal with Sunday and Monday. Only decent day for sailing all week was Friday spent all day waiting for a couple of guest to show up. Last year Easter was later in April and it was beautiful sailing all week.

It is not just happening in the east, it is lousy out here on the west coast at the 49th. By now I should have my boat back in the water, but alas, I still have much more prep work to do. It seems to rain every weekend and temperatures are a few degrees cooler than previous years so I am now aiming for mid May to launch. We got spoiled last year, spring came early, weather was warm & dry, winds were strong, conditioms were great and summer lasted well into late September early October. Now winter is still hanging in there, what gives. On the up side Skiiers never had it so good.

I'm not far away from you

with my boat in Deale, Md, on the Chesapeake. I keep a log and typically by this time of the year I've had 5-6 day sails. This year, I had my second one today, and that was only because I really HAD to have a sailing fix. Started out sunny but coldish. Sailed over to Poplar Isl and back in 12-14 kts, with the wind tailing off to about 5 kts by 2 PM or so. Nice to be sailing again... but even with silks on under my clothes, it was cold in an open cockpit. But I felt like I was escorting the recent nor'easter out and ushering in some better weather. You'll be able to sail comfortably this weekend...
