Oday28 Universal M12 Exhaust manifold question

Have an Oday 28 1985 Anniversary Edition I recently purchased. I am rebuilding the Universal M12 motor. The marine exhaust connects to the boat exhaust with a series of heavy galvanized pipe fittings 3-90 degrees and several nipples. Is this how it was done originally from the factory? It seems and looks unprofessional and very heavy for the four small bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the engine. Would love to get a picture of how it was done from the factory or a picture of what you are using. I can fabricate something but would like for it to look original.

When I had to rebuild on my M-25. I use black plumbing pipe and welded it. That what it was made of on an ODAY 34

That's the way it is on my O'Day 31 with a Universal M-18. I think it is standard.

I fabricated mine the same way a couple of years ago. It may seem unprofessional, but I sure was glad I could do it with parts from a small town hardware store. Otherwise, our week long vacation would have been ruined!
