O'Day w/ contiguous keel-rudder configuration

I'm looking at a 1968 O'Day that is alleged to be an O'Day 26. It has a contiguous keel-rudder configuration much like the Outlaw, however, and I can't find info on whether Pearson (the builder) ever made a 26 with that particular modification/enhancement. I like the feature (sailing in areas where there are lots of lobster trap lines, I'm hoping for fewer snags to the rudder), but don't know if this really is a 26 or another Outlaw.Two questions:- Does anyone know if the O'Day 26 was ever given this keel-rudder design?- Does anyone have insider info or caveats for someone buying an O'Day of this vintage?Many thanks,Meriby

Looking At An Outlaw Most Likely

The Pearson company did indeed build a 26, but in 1970 (to 83), and it was a fin keel. I think you are looking at an Outlaw. O'Day did build a 26, as a replacement to the 25, in about 85 I believe. As you probably know the Outlaw was a Canadian model built by licence from O'Day, and the modified fin keel design went on to be called the Northern 25. There are still Outlaws sailing in Ontario, but there now over 30 years old. If they have not been maintained by owners they would be showing the ravages of time (mostly water in the decks).
