I have the chance to buy a trailer for my 25 at an extremely good price. I would plan to use it to haul the boat for maintenance, bottom jobs, etc- not over the road. I live in eastern NC (flat terrain) and drive a six cylinder Ford Ranger pickup rated to tow 4000 pounds. Is this sufficient vehicle to pull the boat out of the water at a decent ramp? I would appreciate any ideas or comments-Thanks!

At about 1000lbs over your trucks limit, you would be stressing the engine, drivetrain, and frame/suspension. Having said that, I have towed my 25 home twice with a neighbours 6 cyl truck. But he could not haul it up the ramp. You could get the marina to pull it out for you, then you take it the few miles needed to get it home. Make it a backroute, after peak traffic hours, and you wont piss off too many drivers as you slowly move down the road. Its your call. Make sure you have a class 3 hitch setup. Also remember you may be voiding your trucks warranty, if you have one. Don

I wouldn't do it...

As Don says you're going to be way over the truck's limit, even if the boat is empty. I would worry about damaging the truck and I would worry about what my insurance carrier would think about it. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

If the Ranger is a 4X4 with an automatic transmission, assuming the ramp is not steep should pull it out of the water if you use low range. If your hauling just a short distance you will most likely be "ok". This is a less than perfect situtation. Keep the speed under 30 mph and have a car tail you to keep the idiots from tailgating. Needless to say your way over the capacity of the truck...Good Luck!
