Does anyone have information on the oday swift.Oday made about 1700 of them, i have hull number 1487. I need specs on a centerboard and suggestions on paint. I will get a new sail through sailboatowners.com.The boat needs alot of cosmetic work , is it worth it? thanks Dan

Is it worth it?
Nobody can answer that question. There are owners that want perfect finish & woodwork on their boat. There are owners that just want to sail the boat and are not overly concerned about the shine. There are owners that want to get every knot they can get out of their boat. I am one that is more concerned with the mechanics, safety and function than the shine. None is correct, it is worth it, IF, you enjoy doing what you like with the boat. I.M.H.O.

O'Day Swift
My neighbor wanted to give me an O'Day Swift, because he was moving and didn't want to take it with him. I was going to take it, but I hesitated because it needed a new mast,sail, and the gudgeon's were missing. Not only that, but it needed more work and money put into it than I wanted to spend. I have another sailboat that I enjoy using, and I probably wouldn't use the Swift much if I did take it and fix it up. Having said that though, I probably could have purchased the parts from Rudy Nickerson of D&R Marine in near by Assonet Ma. and fixed it up. If your Swift is in pretty good shape and you need any parts for it, I suggest that you talk to Rudy. I'm pretty sure that he could make you up a dagger board for it, if he doesn't have one in stock. Also, as far as the paint goes, I imagine that it has the original gel coat on it, but there are epoxy paints like Awl Grip, that are easy to install and could make that boat look like new. The paint is very expensive, but you wouldn't need much for a boat of this size. The question of whether it's worth it, is a hard one for me to answer. Having never sailed a swift, I don't really know. The only way you can find that out, is to talk to someone who owns one. Most sailboats like the Swift and the Sunfish don't really offer too much head room when you try to tack them, and if you don't mind that, it's okay.
