O'day serial #'s

I'm triing to trace the history of my daysailor. I believe this # molded into the transom's gelcoat must be the serial#. There is no plate or anything else besides the plastic daysailer on sides of cuddy. The # is XDYD9004M77A. What do the #'s signify? manufacture date? ect. Any help? Thanks

The Model Code is supposed to be imbedded there, for us it's the first letter, "M". Our 1973 O'Day 27 Hull ID # ends in "73". I would think maybe your date of manufacture is 1977?
