different boats
Although similar in size, they are two distinctly different boats designed by two different designers (Philip Rhodes and George O'Day, I think). Check under the boat info center header above then click on models and select the oday mariner, then the 192 and see the differences for yourself. Personally, I prefer the mariner post 1969 2+2 model over the 192. If you compare various ratios, it seems to be the better boat across a majority of categories assessed. There also seem to be more mariners around than 192's from the internet research I have done. I narrowed my research down to three similar boats, including the two above, I also considered the Sandpiper 565. I eliminated the 192 on its ratios alone. Its still a toss up between the Mariner and the Sandpiper with the former having a slight advantage with a kickup centreboard and somewhat more economical price used. Availability here in Canada, however seems to favour the Sandpiper. Curently, I sail a daysailer II and am researching my cure for two footitis!
