Hey guys and gals, Just bought an 1985 25th adniversary DaySailer. On the bottom of the tramson, on the starboard side, there is a open drain, proably below waterline. Common sense tells me to plug it in the water.... Any ideas? The cockpit is self bailing, and has a plug in the cockpit that releases on the bottom just behind the skeg. That's not the one in ?, but the other. The 2 access panels in the cockpit (4" round threaded) revealed the open part under the cockpit to be full of water (where the flotation foam is). It drained out the hole I think I need to plug. Thanks in advance for any ideas! -Brad

bilge drain

This drain goes through the transom into the bilge area. It requires a screw type plug if it is original. BUT... The hole it goes through is often oversized, and the screws that hold the body of the drain to the transom are often poorly seated. As such, this is a common place for a leak to occur. You will need to remove the body of the drain, and check the area for watertightness. You may have to partially fill the sides with fiberglass then reseat the drain and screws before replacing the plug. Here is what mine looks like on my DS II (1974).
