I have just bought my first boat! I am taking a ailing class and I am learning the parts of the boat. I noticed there is no backstay on my boat. Is this right or should there be one. The boat is a 1976 day sailer 2. Thank you Dennis

Answer re: backstay

Dennis: The O'Day Day Sailor never had a backstay. The side shrouds are aft of the mast so they act to triangulate with the forestay. Don't worry about it. I sailed one for years and no problems.
