Oday? Cat? Sirius? which one?

Boat hunting............
Narrowed it down to 3
Each 22', each has about the same amount of "tinkering" but basically sail worthy as is.
Each has plus, minus that kinda all equal out work, cost wise.
The parmeters are they have to have be able to solo sail, easy to sail, (not "tender, weird things under sail), be stable, fairly big cockpit to move @ in (wife and myself, perhaps 4 adults max), "liveable cabin"
So.............
These are going to be used at a meduim size lake, no racing, just "cruisin", over nights, just "zen sailing".
Which one is a better (if there is one) boat?
I like the cabinin the Sirius and Cat, the cockpit in the Oday
2 have swing keels one a shoal, (the lake I sail in is DEEP, no chance of runnin' aground.
I really don't think I can wrong with any but is thee one that stands out, and why??

Not familiar with the Sirius but I'd take the O'Day over the Cat (I've owned a number of O'Days and, well, I just like them!), at least if you're talking boats from the 70s or early 80s.
I personally don't like permanent dinettes in anything smaller than about 28 feet. It just eats up too much floor space, especially if you have two people trying to move around in the boat. Not to mention you'll feel like you're in a kids clubhouse and all hunched over if you actually try to eat a meal at one.
Just to throw this out there: an O'Day 23 has more room than the 22, real teak as opposed to veneer, dedicated head (which is very nice when you have guests), and the same shoal/swing keel configuration as the 22. Price is comparable if you can find one. It also has a built in cooler out in the cockpit, which is pretty freaking awesome : ) ! I looked at a 22 before I bought my 23 a long time ago and there was literally no comparison for me.
Are these boats in your area or just models that you like?

have an Oday 22 moored beside me...we both went out close to the same time today..he was solo sailing....dang l just couldn;t catch him..seems like a nice well built and decently quick boat..

I had looked @ for a 23 Oday, missed one, actually missed a AWESOME Rhodes 22'(it was perfect for me AND it was 2 docks down at the marina I was at! I could have motored her over to my slip, but you know how perfect deals go)!
The boats are all close to me, making it easier to drag home. (the Cat. is the farthest, like 100 miles away, the Oday is at the other end of the lake but she has a soft spot on her fore hull @ the pulpit, a "Ted Williams" AIR cooled motor that looks cool, runs but...... the trailer is iffy, but there.
The Siruis looks alot like a Mac Greger inside and sorta likem a Cat. outside, (she's the cheapest, like DIRT cheap, but she needs her #500 drop keel dropped, sandblasted and expoxied, a job I don't think I can do in the driveway without a trip (or 2) to the E.R.! Has a nice trailer with roller bunks.
IF (Well, WHEN ) the guy pulls mine away today, I might run to the "The Sailboat Shop" in N.J. and take a look at a Oday 222 for sale there.
A marina on my lake rents Oday 22 out, I might take one for a test sail

Oh boy! I have that same addiction. At the moment I have three sailboat parked in my yard. And I'm shopping for something in the 26' range.

Joe! Have you looked at the MacGregor 26 S or D. I have been really looking at them hard recently and they are small enough to trailer easily but have tremendous room inside for a smaller boat. For lake zen-cruising, this might be a better option for you. And I have a project Rhodes22 that you can have for dirt if you are willing to drive to Virginia... It has a brand new main sail, roller furl etc but the interior needs to be completely gutted and redone. She is my winter project but... if I buy myself a Mac D or S I'm going to ditch that project.

Took a Sirius in as a brokerage boat when in the business. Nicely made and thought-out Canadian boat, though rare here in the states.

All other things being equal, would stick with O'Day for its name recognition and resale-ability (given your penchant for a "roving eye" ).

The Oday 23 isn't missed, it's just I can't find a trailer that not the same cost as the boat to run up and get it.
I was told to keep this boat under 25' for solo sailing and 22' seems to fit my needs.
I'm HOPING this is my last (or near my last) boat purchase, but you never know...........
I got a price to lift the Siruis and drop the keel for sanding,refinish, (I realized that #500 plus is a bit too much to be trying to wrestle under a trailer, like that's squash Joe time!
The Oday 22 is tired, prehaps too tired, I found a 222 that has a offer (low) the boat place where she is layed up is gonna get back to me on that.
Sat. is the trip to the Catalina.
Looks like the Siruis and Cat. are very similar in layout, hull and keel??!!
Might be title problems with the Sirius trailer.
In my massive time sailing (1 1/2 years) and being @ boats, I've learned quite a bit about them and I'm TRYING to put it to good use. But like a HOT chick, I see a boat and I HAVE to have it!

A fellow Sandpiper 565 owner has "upsized' to an O'Day 23, which he refinished this winter. We visited it about 3 weeks ago, and it seems to be a very nice boat for two people - everything seemed to have a 'place', the head was private. It seemed very reasonable for a long weekend, or a week's cruising, with sufficient planning.

I have that same problem about the wandering eye. So many Good Old Boats, so little time!
Best of luck and keep us posted. Why don't you buy the O'22 with trailer and the 23, then fix up the 22 and sell it without the trailer, keeping the trailer and the 23 : ) !! Good luck getting that one past the admiral!
