I'm new to this forum and new to our 1985 O'day 39. We got the boat in the Spring and spent the summer cruising near our home on the south coast of British Columbia.
Our electric windlass stopped working. I changed the solenoid (almost not recognizable behind the rust), but that's not the problem. The windlass is a maxwell, horizontal and is mounted below deck. It only works to raise the anchor and free wheels wildly. It also has no manual backup system, so I'd like to replace it with one that goes both ways and has a manual winch back up system.
I'd be grateful for any advice at all about windlasses to help me along.
