Oday 37 CC Florida
Hi All!
I recently both O'Day 37 CC. Now my beauty wait me in Florida.
In November, after hurricane season, I'm going to Panama, and in April, -ohalla!, - I guess voyage to Europe.
One of the first I planning change all ports. The ports no looking well, some locks broken, the plastic so old. I decided the problem of leaking – gaskets were changed, but I'm not sure than opening ports will not open after first wave))) Would you recommend me ports good fit to old places?
And about forward hatch – somebody have experience to change it for more reliable construction? I fixed the leaking - double rubber pasted, but may be possible to change it to more strong feature?

Sorry my English, It don't my native language )))

There is an Oday 37 cc across from my slip at Sailing Emporium in Rock Hall, Md. He recently changed all of his ports. I'll mention this post to him the next time I see him. We didn't even recognize it as an Oday with the new ports.

What year is the boat? Earlier models did not have all opening ports. From '82 onward all ports are opening. In my experience, the ports are fitted in oversize cutouts and eventually will leak around the port under the trim ring. The ports must be removed and reinstalled (with new if you like) cleanly. In the older boats the main cabin ports are trapezoidal in shape and can't easily be replaced with rectangular ports, opening or not.

Not sure what year it is but the replaced ports are all rectangular with radius corners. The outside are chrome or stainless. I'll try to point the owner to this discussion so he can better explain what he has done.

The year '79. The opening ports - 2 in the forward cabin and 4 in the aft cabin. All ports don't leak around. I'm worried only opening ports - the locks are old and could be broken easy.

I'd bet there Beckson ports cause thats whats in my 1978 32CC and Replacing was no problem the new ones had different hole locations but that didn't matter, measure top to bottom and side to side and go on the Beckson site for a match up

http://www.beckson.com/ports.html

BTW Regis will correct him self when he realizes his mistake he can and has written english

Good evening, I can make an effort to speak English but is very bad. I changed some ports and I did not leak. Beckson ports link is good, that's exactly what I bought. It's pretty simple to change and for sealing sikaflex did the job.

The original ports are almost certainly Grey Enterprises. Becksons have never been used as OEM ports, to my knowledge. They're both plastic and look similar so its easy to get confused.

I just replaced my 37CC ports with those from West Marine. They are white and drain better than the originals but look good. The main cabin openings fit fine. The smaller port openings had to be enlarged slightly. The interior seems much brighter.

I have a 1979 O'Day, although it is only a 28 footer. Even if it were longer, I would not cross Lake Michigan with a boat that old and would never cross the ocean to Europe. O'Days were built to sail the coast, not cross oceans.

Be careful out there!

Hi all!
I successfully changed my ports to Beckson. The size fit strike-to-strike, I changed all ports (10) 1 day myself. The part numbers are PO410DWS-20 (opened) PF410-WS-20R (fixed).
Now I'm in Caribbean side of the Panama, relax and enjoy. The sailing from Florida took 2 weeks, Florida - Bahamas - Windward passage– Panama. The boat running well, in the wind 10-15 knots boat speed is 7 knots. The average speed for this trip was 5 knots ( for the night I took 2 reefs on the main and reefing the jib).

Next week I planning to install windlass, I'll post here the results)))

UPD Oh, photos in my Facebook

After I sailed from Florida to Panama I absolutely sure with my boat. Maximum wind was 30 knots, wave 10-15 feet. Two reefs main, little part of jib – the boat was very stable and run well. Before cross the Atlantic I'll change the stay rigging for be quiet about it.

PS Here is sister ship my boat, several years ago came to Panama from Australia)))

Please, if possible, post photos somewhere (anywhere) other than Facebook. These forums have a widget for posting photos, and I believe that it works. Many of us are not Facebook users, and therefore cannot see the pix.

Thank you!
