Hi, I have an '85 Oday 35 and would like to sail her to the Bahamas via the ICW, Miami to Bahamas. I've owned the boat for 5yrs and have sailed her extensively on Lake Ontario... she's never let me down and we've been in 45kts sustained winds on Lake Ontario more times than I'd care to admit too. Even though I still wonder if she would be ok for offshore to the Bahamas. I'd love to hear from anyone who has made this or a similar trip in the Oday 35.

Fair Winds...

From what I have heard

I have a ODay 35 and have not done it. However, I have a lot of friends here in town that go on our type boat and smaller every year. What the say is go to Ft. Lauderdale and go across. It is only about 65 mi. You just may have to wait a little to get your weather window.

Good Winds

Re: From what I have heard

Cheers Dave, thanks for the response....65mi seems really doable in the right conditions.

I think a well cared for boat is capable in the right conditions. The question usually comes back to the capabilities of the captain. How comfortable are you on the boat when conditions turn sour? Can you perform all reefing and sailhandling in crappy conditions? Based on you initial post you sound capable, but only you know what you are able to handle.
