I found this post a few months back regarding the lack of a a low oil pressure alarm on the Universal 5424 diesel engine installed in many O'day 34's:

I replaced my engine control panel gauges recently and since my engine is 28 years old, I figured an audible alarm was an easy, inexpensive and maybe worthwhile addition.

It works most of the time... Sometimes when I shutdown the engine, the buzzer does not sound (warning light does not ignite either).

Curious if anyone has ever replaced the oil pressure sender?

thanks,
John Mc..

You might want to test it prior to starting the engine. When you first turn the key on does it alarm? It may be the residual pressure in the sender upon shutdown, the time between sutting off the engine and turning off the key may have to be extended to test it that way?

I've replaced mine. Bought one from an auto parts store for $5. Pretty much a piece of cake, however getting the large wrench to it took a bit of fiddling. It's been my experience that the pressure indication remains positive for a while after the engine stops. I've thought of adding a real gauge to see what the pressure actually is but never gotten around to it. Don't have a buzzer either, probably ought to invest into that too.
