I'm working on solving an oil pressure issue (Universal M25). The light on the instrument panel has been coming on so I ordered a new oil pressure switch (sensor/transducer) but in doing some research in the archives, people have talked about buzzers/alarms along with the oil pressure light. Did O'day install them on our boats? Would it be located behind the panel?

My 1981 O'Day 34 with a Universal 5424 doesn't have a buzzer and only has a light. Not sure if it ever had one. My sensor recently failed and was replaced using a standard part from Advanced Auto. Kits for a buzzer along with oil pressure sensor are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

Thanks for responding Scott. You said you replaced your sensor recently, I'm not sure how similar your engine is to mine, but my sensor is on the port side of the engine, above the starter, aft of the alternator, below the coolant reservoir. Pretty tight quarters. I tried to get it off once but couldn't get a wrench on it with enough leverage and I didn't have a deep well socket to fit. How was yours to remove?

Sounds like your's is in the same place as mine was... ya can't easily get to it and once you do you have little room to move a wrench. As I recall I considered removing the alternator but fortunately didn't have too. I ended up borrowing a large socket, sorry but the only thing that I recall was it somewhere in the range of 15/16 or 1". The good news is that once you break it loose you can back it out with you fingers. I'm planning to go to Karma this weekend and I take some pics for you if you want.

Thanks Scott, I'm heading up to our boat as well along with an arsenal of deep well sockets, so (cross your fingers) I'll get it resolved. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hello,

On my boat (86 35 with M25) I have a buzzer for oil pressure. The buzzer is located behind the switch panel. The buzzer should come on when you turn the key to the 'on' position and the engine is not running.
