I am considering adding refrigeration to my boat and have gotten much advice. What I need is experience on installation in my type of boat. Can you use both ice boxes with a single compressor? Alternator upgrade? Additional Battery? Brand and type of unit, condensor, etc. If you have done this please reply.

Refrigeration

Good Morning: I have an O34 with an Adler/Barbour refigeration unit in the stern most chest. I can't answer all of your questions about dual operation off of one compressor, but may be this will help you make up your mind. I do have 315 amps of house batteries, a 55 watt solar panel with a 50 amp charger (original). This is all not for the purpose of the refrigeration, just like to have more than I need, based on my usage. The boat is on shore power when not in use, however, the refrigeration pulls down about 3.5 to 4.0 amps per hour which is not really that much considering. When off of shore power, routine running of the engine, just motoring in and out of ancorages, not running for the purpose of charging, in combination with the solar panel, I have never had a power problem. Hope this helps.
