O'Day 322 Prop

I am considering a folding prop for my O'Day 322. How much will this increase performance under sail. Will performance under power be less. We frequently leave for Catalina at night and do so under power. Also, should I consider a three bladed folding prop versus a two blade. Any comments you have would be appreciated

Two or three blade

Dear Leroy, Thank you for your letter. In either case of the two or three blade folder you should increase the sailing speed of the vessel by apx. ½ knots. You may experience an added increase to pointing to weather. As for motoring some will say you loose nothing others will tell you that you loose efficiency especially going astern. I’m not completely sure of the three blade folder and its capacity. We do not see many of them in the field but I would assume that it to would have an added increase like our feathering three blades do. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
