I have a 1983 Oday 30, it has a manual and automatic bilge pump installed. The manual pump is locater just under the stern seat. Both pumps share the same discharge thru-hull, which is locate directly above and very close (about 2") to the exhaust pipe. The discharge hose coming from the automatic pump exits from the back of the quarter birth making a sharp turn upward for about 18 inches or so then loop down to the thru-hull. This seem to be necessary do to the closest of the thru-hull to the waterline. I want to know from other Oday 30 owners if this is the original configuration. The backwash from this layout is probably between 1.5 and 2 gallons. If this was changed in later model 30's please explain?

On my O'35, the electric bilge discharge is the same, with a very high rise and a siphon break before the thru hull. My manual bilge pump discharges separately through a thru hull in the bottom, no siphon break in line since the pump is above the waterline. Incidentally, I just changed the thru hull near the exhaust since the old one disintegrated, a bit of a pain to get to, but it is done.

Thanks Dan. I've already decided to install a separate thru-hull for the automatic pump. I replaced all three transom thru-hulls on my boat this past week.
