I just bought a 1984 30' Oday 25th Anniversary Special Edition. I had the rigging chequed by a rigger. The backstay cable shows evidence of corrosion, even though the terminals are fairly ok. The rigger said that the bakstay should be replaced before sailing, and the rest of the rigging could be ok for the next 1-2 years. The previous owner replaced the backstay tails 5-6 years ago. Where in the internet I can by the backstay? The boat manual give the following backstay specifications:
1) Size/Const: 1/4 1 x 19
2) PCL: 35' 5 1/2"
3) A End: Stemball & 1" cup
4) B End: 7854-8-12-12
5) Extra: SK4558 on B End not in PCL

Thanks!

ambienta,

I used JSI in St. Petersburg via UPS. Turn around time was surprisely good. I sent the them two shrouds and the duplicated them with new hardware. I do not recall exact price but I recall thinking with fast turn around it was a very good price. I think I sent on a Monday and got them back -- new that is --- on Friday. That meant that the made and sent them when they got them.

Since boats might vary some, by sending orginals, you get exact duplicates back.

....."the rest of the rigging could be ok for the next 1-2 years."

Now let me say that i don't know much about rigging,,,,but that statement sounds odd..

reason being is that normally all stays should be replaced at the same time when replacing due to wear. the other odd thing is how they heck can someone tell that a shroud or stay is ok for one year...if there is enough wear that one needs to be replaced, can you be sure the rest shouldn't be replaced now. i guess if you are doing some low stress sailing on a small bay or lake, well ok, if you are doing more than that then maybe not ok.
