Anyone have information on the original layout/tankage for the head on 79 oday 28? The PO moved the tank into the v-berth, closing off the filler cushion and losing the ?shelves? in that area as well. I have the manuals, but it doesn't show tankage.

The head is very low as well, I do know it was angled in the original. I want to regain the v-berth area including storage under the v-berth....

O'Day Head

Hello, when I first purchased the boat the only thing the Wife asked for was an electric head. I put wainscoting behind it to close off the ugly hole. Now about the *&#@#@%$ head. The person I purchased it from never pumped the tank and because I purchased it on the hard in the dead of winter, the tank was a s&#icicle. In the spring it was a real blast working on her.
For the new head we flush with raw water from the through hull, we close it and flush with fresh water from a gallon bottle at the end of the day. If we are off shore #1 goes over the side. For anything else it is the bucket and bag....the head is 3 yrs old and so far so good. The position of the tank is ridiculous, the first thing I did was put the observation port on the top. This allows the tank to be scrubbed after it is pumped.. I think the only way to remove it, I have had it completely disconnected and it does not come out. The only way I figured would be to cut the bulkhead in front. What kind of steering do you have? And what kind of engine, is it a sailmaster? Hope this helps. Michael

Thanks for the reply Mick: Fully forward in teh V-berth, interesting. Do you think it would turn 90° and come out? I will need to look for the old holes for the lines to run forward into that compartment.

I have a YSM yanmar single cyl, and tiller steering. I think about converting to wheel, because the wife likes to lounge, and the tiller really calls for coordination of crew.

I could not get it out. It became me or the tank. We were inside of about 40 sailboats with no room to get a pump machine to it. So I gave up and just waited to pump it and put the port on it. My next choice was C-4. I do think I tried to twist and, and found the sides of the boat, and the height of the tank would not permit it.
I also have a tiller, but desired to leave it?
