I have recently moved to Chicago from Tennessee and for the first time will have to haul out for the winter. Need to have a cradle made. Does anyone have drawings or dimensions for an Oday 28 cradle? I'm very concerned about getting the spacing correct. Have checked with Rudy and the drawings are not in the papers he has from Oday. Also, if anyone knows of a good cradle maker in the Chicago / southern Wisconsin area, please let me know. Greatly appreciate any help. Also, any advice on setting up the cradle to hold the boat for 6 months at a time without deforming the hull will be greatly appreciated. As a southern boater, hauling out for the winter is new to me and I want to make sure I do it right the first time. Thanks, Bob Amos s/v "Simple Dreams"

O'Day 28 Cradle

Bob, my manual for my 1979 O28 addresses supporting by poppets, but the guidelines should apply to a cradle as well. First, don't put all the weight on the keel or the hull will distort. The poppet pads should be under bulkheads, berth fronts or pan stringers. The kicker to all this is the last sentence;"A storage cradle designed for this boat is available through your O'Day dealer." If Rudy doesn't know, the knowledge may have ben lost forever. I think common sense will carry you through. Also, the manual recommends disconnecting the prop shaft coupling to avoid bending the shaft. I do believe that there is a question of exactly how stiff this hull is. Hope this helps, but a good yardmaster should be able to fix you up. Bill Coxe, O28 Kukulcan, New London, CT

cradle

Bob- I have an O'day 28 with a steel cradle. Next time I'm up I'll measure the on-center dimensions for the four posts, the pad sizes, the over all square, and the gauge of the steel used in the construction. also I'll measure the post heights and the screw length for the adjusters. As Bill said a good yard will be able to find or build a cradle for you and if all else fails some yards rent jack stands for the lay up till you can build something. If you post your boat on the O'day site then I will e-mail you the dimensions you seek. I may even be able to get a photo to post of the cradle. Good Luck, Mike

Thank you

Thanks for the responses, guys. Mike, I'm in the Owner's Directory. Select "28" for model and type in Chicago for the city and I'll be the first one on the list. Appreciate the assistance. Thanks again, Bob Amos s/v "Simple Dreams"
