In a previous thread I posted images showing how to access the forward end of the holding tank in order to get rid of that disgusting 5/8" vent hose and replace it with a larger vent using a combination of 1" sanitary hose and PVC pipe. This was lead aft to the hanging locker on the port side and I enlarged the existing hole to accommodate a 1" SS thru-hull.
Even though it is only an 11 gallon tank, I wanted to insure that it was adequately vented. This meant creating a new vent on the after end of the tank and leading it to the STBD side. For those of you who own an O'day of this size and vintage, you know this can be a challenge. After a lot of measuring and figuring, I decided that the vent would go from the tank outboard and aft and up through the bottom of the medicine cabinet in the head. The attached images show how I did it. The only thing I would do differently would be to angle the pipe that comes up into the medicine cabinet outward about 15 degrees because the sanitation hose rubs slightly against the back of the sliding mirror. It is not bad, but it could've been avoided. Given that this is the first time I did anything like this, I am pleased with the results.
I also finished re-plumbing the tank outlet and added a new "Y" valve. The PO(s) plumbed the tank outlet to the inlet of the macerator pump and then the 1" outlet was let to a 1" "Y" valve and then either to the deckfill or overboard. However, the deckfill was the original and sized for 1.5" hose. Their solution was to stick the 1" hose INSIDE the deckfill and hold it in place with duct tape. Also, the hose used was potable water hose, not sanitation hose.
The inlet nipple on the original JABSCO macerator had been cut off so I decided to go new and settled on one made by Johnson Pump. I made a shelf for it that screwed onto the port side of the tank support plywood. So now, the tank outlet goes directly to a 1.5" "Y" valve. From there it is either up to the deckfill or to the inlet of the new macerator. The 1" macerator discharge is fed to the thru-hull.
in addition to Johnson pump, I used a Bosworth "Y" valve (really great) and for 1" hose I used VETUS SA, really easy to use. For the 1.5" hose, I used Raritan Saniflex. It is not as flexible as the VETUS but is guaranteed for 10 years.
