I'm looking at a 1984 O28, and among other improvements I'm considering is a bimini. Could anyone share their experiences and suggestions for installing a bimini on this boat, e.g. manufacturer, optimum height, approx cost. Any other comments on this boat would also be appreciated as I haven't made up my mind as to the purchase yet. Thanks in advance.

dodgers and biminis

I purchased my dodger from Inland Marine (Indodger) through defender catlogue. I think that you can deal directly with them if you like. I saw a bimini on a 30' boat this past summer make by Inland Marine and it looked pretty good. The owner said that he worked through Kent Sail in Mt. Clemens MI. I suppose that there are other sail lofts who will help you with Inland if you ask. I installed my own dodger. It came with all the hardware and instructions I needed to finish the job and it came out nice. It cost about $1,000 complete. I imagine that a full bimini might be a bit more, but should be no more difficult to install. I priced a full cockpit cover (bimini and dodger) with side curtains and screens for $3,000 installed at a local canvas shop. Money and your urge for do-it-yourself should be your guide. Good luck.
