I have just purchased an oday 272 (1987) and so far have loved the way it sails and especially the 3 ft. draft for fla. waters. my problem is that in Fla. it rains alots during summer and each time I go on board, the seats are full of water and have not drained properly. my question - "is this a standard problem on 272 or is the problem just with my 272. any help on this problem will certainly be helpful. thanks & great sailing, woody

get used to a wet seat, Woody

I own a 272 also, and have the same problem. The water on the starboard side drains better than on the port side because the lockers have drainage troughs on three sides, but water inevitably stands at the foreward end of both seats and has to be mopped up if it doesn't dry out on its own. I have thought of installing scuppers in both corners, but it's not that much of an annoyance. I love my 272 as well. I'm heading down this afternoon for a sail (on Lake Erie) Tom

be creative

I am thinking that it you want to fix this, you might trytaking a dremel tool, and drilling channels for the water to drain into in the corners where the backrests meet the seat;then running it a s slope diagonallytoward the cockpit storage hatches, and then letting the water drain out there. What I am talking about it like what is on the floor to drain ater into the cockpit drains. Good luck. I hope this helped.-BM

1989 272 has aft port drain on the port seat that

works well .... that they may have added on toward the end of the production run that drains the port seat quite well ... in any case during the winter when there is no rain in FL ... you should be fine. I wouldn't do anything other that have a couple of dry towels handy ... never forget the time I was doing a drain below decks and poked a hole through the hull ... fortunately I was in winter storage and it was easy to fix.
