I'm sure other 272 owners have noticed this and have corrected it. When it rains, water standfs in cockpit against forward bridgedeck and on seats toward front of cockpit. I can stand on stern, and most of water drains out. At 210, I'm assuming that if I added 200+ lbs to stern area, that trim would allow water to drain. Not really wanting to add weight, is there another way to get the correct trim to allow water to drain properly? There may be as much as 1" of water against bridgedeck. Just wanting suggestions...

I just stand on the stern when I first go aboard. The bigger balance issue seems to be left versus right. Since the outbaord and the batteries are on the right, you have to keep the water tank fujll just to balance the boat.

I'm glad to hear that other O'Day 272 owners have experienced the same issue. I to stand on the stern, rock up and down and let the collected rain drain aft. The only other operation I do is use s squeegy then a sham-wow to to remove the remaining water. And yes I also have to keep the water tank full to keep my 272 from leaning to starboard. I fault the designer for NOT checking for these problems before going into mass production. I'm open to any 272 owners who have found a solution to this nagging problem.

Another ditto...we have LE...and have a teak cockpit grate that further complicates drainage...although it does add weight to stern...we tend to store seldom used items in quarterberth as we don't sleep back there often. I have a small mushroom anchor I keep in a bucket back there if needed...our water tank leaks so it is going to be replaced....w/flexible tank I guess....it has a crack just 1/4 inch below the top all along the starboard wall of the tank...leaks when boat heels to starboard....If i only fill half way still adds some weight but typically doesn't leak...We have installed a 12,000 Mermaid AC under the vee-berth so that complicates the fore and aff drainage further.

The boats sail really well, and are easy to reef, but there are lots of trade-offs...I too fault Hunt Assoc. for paying virtually no attention to weight issues....of course who knows the design pressure they were under to make the boat a success...More 272's were sold than any other O'Day cruising models, than a leveraged buyout....too bad.

Where did you fit the AC under the vee berth? Did you move the holding tank somewhere else?
