Clay - I have a O27 also, a '78 model. The chainplate bulkhead is the main transverse structural member in the hull, taking the forces of the upper shrouds. Even so, it's only partially glassed in place, as the bulkhead above the hull to deck line just fits in a slot moulded in the cabin liner, at least in my boat. Why isn't the other bulkhead glassed ? Cost, probably. The "bulkhead" at the fwd. end of the vee-berths isn't glassed in place either and as this forms the aft part of the "chain locker", a wet anchor rode will seep water under the vee-berth matresses as there is no drain into the bilge. Those are just some of the shortcomings of a cheap production boat. I'm very interested in your proposal to add foam core ribs to the hull. Where ? Why ?
