I seemed to have snapped my tiller on a particularly windy day on Lake Michigan. A little rot also helped. I am trying to find a replacement but my tiller is 2 inches wide at the connection. Most other tillers are 1.5 inches. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement? I am eager to get rid of the broom handle that is my acting tiller. Much thanks, Bob

New Tiller

Bob, Have you check with D and R Marine? Unless your rudder is home made, Rudy should have a tiller for it. (see related link) MArk

Rudder and tiller Combination!

D&R Marine wants $395.00 for a new tiller and rudder combination! Looking for cheaper alternatives!

Try

West Marine used to have replacement tillers for O'day and Catalina 27. I think they ran about $100.

make your own

Bob: One option is to make your own. It takes some basic wood working skills and is very satisfying. I'm faily tall and my tiller was coming about to my knees so I built a new tiller with a 3 inch curve upward. The method I used was: Cut 1/8 thick strips of ash & black walnut wood. Lay them out on a piece of plywood in the shape I wanted for the tiller. secured blocks on one side of the shape. Used outdoor glue and "C" clamped the glued strips to the blocks. After the glue dried I rasped & sanded the wood to shape. Finished with several layers of Exteriour varnish. Looks great and its something I can point to with pride. Good luck

You can try

You could try having one made by a custom teak house like the link below. They will make about anything you need out of teak

oday tiller

Thanks for all of the info. I bought a new tiller from H & L Marine out of Rancho Domingo, California. The tiller cost @ $55. I have a 2"x2" butt on the tiller so I could not use a stock o'day tiller. Thanks Bob
