I have recently purchased a 77 O'day 25. The stove (I assume its original) is alcohol but the plunger is worn and cannot pressurize the tank. I don't have any of the original paperwork for directions so I'm looking for some ideas. Is there any hope for repair or parts or should I just replace it.

replace it

Get a $60 1 burner portable butane kenyon stove, or check out the origo alcholhol stove which supposedly replaces it ($350) Butane is hooter & cooks faster, but only one burner & portable. It works great in my '77 O'Day 27, but I'm thinking about the origo...

Butane Stove

I have a 1984 O'day 25 and I bought a Butane stove from E-Bay for $25.00 and 5.00 shipping. It is not Kenya, but a knock off and works very well. EJ Tews Jennifer Lea

Replace it!

I bought an '86 O'Day 31 last year with a pressurized alcohol stove. One (of two) top burners and the oven burner were shot. I tried unsuccessfully for 8 months get replacement burners, but the manufacturer went out of business (can't remember name). I replaced it with a countertop and drop-in Origo 2-burner non-pressurized alcohol stove and under counter storage. The type stove was based on safety of non-press alcohol vs propane/butane and additional "housing" requirements for tanks. The stove also simple and works great. Extra storage is always a plus!

One More Option

When I bought my 85 O'Day 25, it had the original pressurized stove. I took the stove out of the boat and tried to learn how to operate it. I was never able to light it without a 3' flame, which is why they earned the nickname, "Curtain Burner." I went to Wal-Mart and bought a $45 Coleman propane camp stove, remove all the working parts, and placed them in the shell of the original stove. Everything fit perfect and it has worked great for the last two years. Just keep in mind that propane is heavier than air, I use the small disposible cannisters and when the stove is not in use, they are stored outside in the fuel locker. I guess it goes

The stove comes out this week. I'll try finding a drop in replacement or some thing along that line. Thanks all

Coleman Stove

Can a Coleman stove powered by a small propane canister be used in the O'Day 25? Mine didn't have a stove when I purchased it, but has an area where it would normally go. That cut out is covered by a cutting board. I was going to use a Coleman camp stove, the two burner model. The area seems very confined to safely have a stove. Is that where it should go? Ed
