I have about 6 pictures and projects that I have been trying to post. I hope this one comes up. This is a shelving unit that I connected to the bulkhead to give accessible storage and to extend the swing down table off the wall. Please, my boat is a new to me and there is much work that still needs to be done. Focus on the project areas only. The rest is a mess. r.w.landau

Glad to see someone getting some projects done. I did sail sunday and managed to use the broom to clean the gunk off the rudder. Post more! I never thought about using that space! Later, Mike

I really like this new feature, Phill has added. Thats an area that lends itself well for additional storage. Well done R.W. By the way what surface is on your table? Is that a white formica top? Mine needs refinishing but I think the white lightens up the salon. Don

Mike, I thought you were playing Loos (sorry couldn't help myself again) with words. As in Loos rig tensioner guage....8^) Thank goodness for the "edit reply" feature in this forum. For example, in my post I had originally spelled "salon", as "saloon". Doesn't that change the meaning of the cabin below a tad! Don

R.W. bulkhead finish
R.W. can you tell me what finish you have on your bulkhead. Oil or varnish? Is the wood Teak? Thanks, Stephen

The shelves are Man O War Varnish and the bulkhead is the way it came. I think it is varnished. You can see the discoloration of the bulkhead where the previous owner had something mounted. That will be corrected next winter. r.w.landau

Great idea, my wife (most of the time the Captain, even though I always think I am), had a similar idea but alas I was preoccupied trying to give my "new" boat TLC after 3 years of neglect by previous owner. She saw your shelving and wants to know if "we" can get the plans/dimensions. I have a 26' O'day and dimensions should be the same - I hope.

Glen, I measured from the compression post to the berth and left a 1/4".I measured from the fiberglas that retains the bulkhead at the floor to the fiberglass that retains the bulkhead at the cabin ceiling and left a 1/4". The sides are 1"x 5 1/2" mahogany. The shelves are the same. The shelf that the table is supported from is doubled. The spindles are 3/8"x3/8" teak. The top and bottom rails are 1"x1" mahogany. The spindles are mortised into the top and bottom rails. It is attached onto the bulkhead with stainless screws and finish washers thru the bulkhead from the head into the vertical pieces. By the way, I was not the first to do this. I saw this in a boat that I saw on the internet. I liked it and made my own version. I you need more info, let me know. r.w.landau

Thanks, Another great project for my boat. It is "new" to me and needs some more TLC but I do enjoy working on it. In fact, need to replace all the running rigging, add an anchor light and a "few" pieces of equipment. Gonna be a great spring.
