Dan, I don't have any info on the original design of your existing mainsail but I can tell you that sail design technology has made some significant advances since 1976. Today's sailcloth is more stable and longer lasting. Coupled with vastly improved design software we are able to produce sails now that are simply superior in every aspect to sails built 25-30 years ago. I would suggest you submit a request for a quote on a new 6oz. dacron mainsail from the sailboatowners.com chandlery. You probably should consider a reef as well. Thanks, Bill C. Doyle Sails
