My sailboat has the original material on the interior surface walls has anyone tried to paint or replace this material? If so how did it work out? Thanks

Some of us have. I replaced the fabric liner; not as difficult as you may think. I'll get back later with some photos.

My liner was in very bad shape. I was able to pull it off without too much difficulty. I used the old liner for patterns. I was able to do the job by myself.

What material did you use and how did you attach to the hull? It looks just wonderful!!! Did you bleach the teak?

Thanks so much for sharing!

I replaced mine too. The original, at 35 years old, was of course long past its service expiry.
It peeled off pretty easily, leaving behind a thin, crispy, foamy adhesive layer that readily sanded away with a sanding disk in my drill. Messy job, that.
I took rough meaurements of each section and cut oversize pieces from outdoor carpet (available in maybe half-dozen colours at Home Depot, I chose brown). While fitting into place, I cut the allowances for hull stiffeners etc, and cut to final shape. Then I trowelled on the outdoor-carpet adhesive and stuck 'er in place, ensuring full contact.
Boat interior looked better right away, and the awful smell was gone too.

I replaced the interior of my O'Day 25. It was originally foam backed fabric glued onto the hull. I tore the fabric off and used a Dremel Multi Max to shear the foam off of the inside of the hull. Works real slick, just remember to use a little petroleum jelly on the serrations of the blade to minimize glue build up on the blade. I then glued 24" strips of Mannington vinyl flooring on to the inside of the hull. First I tried a 12 foot piece of vinyl. That ended in disaster as the curves of the hull and the horizontal wood stringer glassed into the hull were too much to form around. The glue I used was HH-66 from my local marine supply store. It comes in square gallon cans and is a lot like model airplane glue. I used floor cap/strip between pieces. I used a plastic roller from top to bottom, being very careful around the horizontal wood stringer. I trimmed the slot away from the back of the cap where it went around the horizontal stringer and to really secure it to the stringer I used #6 screws with dimple washers, 2 per cap.
