I am in the final stages of rebuilding my '77 P'Day 25. There are cracks in the gel coat at the lower rudder pivot but I am more concerned about those in cockpit starboard aft. There is support for the port side from the aft bunk wall but nothing under the starboard side. I think a couple of guys > 200 lbs added up to cause those cracks. Does anyone have suggestions for strengthening this area?

That's an interesting situation. Are the cracks on the cockpit sole or on the seat-fronts (or even on the aft-vertical section)? Maybe a pic or two?
Strengthening involves laying-up additional layers of 'glass from the inside. It won't necessarily reduce gelcoat-cracking flex. Stiffening, on the other hand, is a whole 'nother ball of wax. Google-up "hat shaped stiffener" to learn about them. It's not hard, but there's an involved principle behind it.
I would be more concerned about your gudgeon-area cracks (rudder pivot). They could indicate a rotted-out plywood backer on the inside of the transom. How does that area feel from the inside if you poke at it with an awl? Mine was entirely pulp, and indicated a complete replacement. It was a big job, but not terribly time-consuming. I wrote it up here last year sometime.

Thanks Joe. The shop plans to fill a corking gun with resin paste and squirt it through a bolt hole until any voids behind the grudging plate is full. Additional reinforcement was added on the backside. The spider cracks were excavated, reglassed, and gel coated.
They got a good match on the gel color too. Your comments helped but I also plan to install a supporting wall between the side of the starboard cockpit and the stronger below it on the hull. I hope it does not produce a "Hard spot" on the hull.
