Hello
I want to buy a good coastal weekend boat, ODay 25, but have height restrictions in my neighborhood.
Can someone please tell me how high an ODay 25 CB is when on the trailer from the ground to the cabin top? I don't need the height of the mast as I can push that off to the side when parked beside my house.
I have a 26' Clipper Marine there now at 7.5' and that hides OK, but I am afraid the ODay 25 will be more like 9' tall and I may not be able to hide it's view from the street (darn neighborhood police!)

Thnx a bunch!

Bob,

Yes, I think you might have an issue. While I have never actually measured the height, I would say that it's easily nine feet. Of course, depending on the trailer and the height off the ground, but the boat by itself is a fairly substantial vessel.

Dig a hole, you can make it stick up any height you want. If possible of course. My parents have a house in a lake community. We call it the land of no. Everytime we leave the house we are hounded by the security force. I feel your pain.

Bob,

A lot depends on the design of the trailer. On my 26 which is essentially just an updated 25 I needed close to 12 feet with the mast resting on the rails.

It would be almost a foot lower if I fitted the pad post more precisely for the boat. My trailer was modified from a 27 boat trailer with a 36 inch draft. Since the trailer can be used for more than one boat, I leave it as is.

Then again my trailer rest lower than usual on its axles. So while it varies with trailer involved, I would suggest better than 10 foot to hide it. Maybe better than 11 foot.

Fair winds,

The O'Day 25's have a lot of freeboard Bob. Even if you were to remove the mast and lay it on the ground at your house. They sit high in the water and they'll surely sit high on a tandem trailer.

Bob,

It is the 'freeboard' that Joe mentions that makes the 25 c/b a boat that interest you.

It is what gives you enoungh headroom in the cabin to make it useable. While 5' 8"s does not seem like a lot, it is a whole lot different than 4' 8's.

And the boat sails good even with the freeboard. It is not a racing boat, but a casual sail boat suitable for overnight. With shoal draft it works both inland and near coastal. It is not a 'Blue Water', nor with its freeboard good in very strong winds.

The closest boats made today to it are probably the Com Pac's. But they do not have the centerboard which is for windward sailing. It is a true centerboard where the centerboard is not ballast, but rather just designed for windward sailing.
