I know this topic has been discussed at length in the achieves but I hadn't seen this problem mentioned. My centerboard pendant had frayed enough so that it would get stuck in the pvc tube and I couldn't raise the centerboard. My pendant on my 1980 model was part stainless (centerboard end) spliced to a line. The stainless cable was spliced through the center of the line and this allowed it to slide and then bunch up. This problem was compounded by the fact the stainless cable had worn a ½ inch groove in the pvc tube up in the centerboard pocket. The worn groove wasn’t wide enough for the bunched up line so it acted like a cleat and jammed. I had the boat put on a lift so I could replace the pendant. It looked difficult to replace the pvc tube or get some patching epoxy up in the centerboard pocket so I opted to leave it and use a narrower ¼ inch poly pendant. If you still have the combination stainless/line centerboard pendant, at your next haul out, you may wish to replace it with an all poly pendant so it doesn’t wear out your pvc pendant tube. I have attached a photo of the centerboard wedges and pivot just for background info.
