Im restoring a 1976 ODay 25.I am missing the boom attachment for my vang(frankly I dont ever recall seeing it).I have the blocks, what Im missing is a connecting piece, probaly a wire, thimbled at one end and a ball or similar structure that fits into a 'keyhole'opening on the underside of the boom at the other end.Am I correct in assuming what this structure is and is it commomly available?Ive yet to see it in West Marine catalogs. Thanks so much,Ron.

Addition to this request

I am installing a pad eye on the mast and a bail on the boom for a new vang. The old vang had a cable lead to the boom with a slot fitting. The old vang was abit cheap and with no mechanical advantage. I would sure like to see how O'Day had the down haul setup.I bought this boat and nothing was there (hardware nor cordage) r.w.landau

boom vang and downhaul

Guys I have both and am attaching a couple of photos. Ron, the peice you describe is how my vang is attached. Or I should say was attached as I found the ball broken of the short (6 inch) piece of cable a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea how it broke but it happened while on the mooring. I have no idea where to find a replacement but will be talking to Rudy soon about other supplies, I'll see if he has one. I don't have the gear to swag a new end on. I may have that gear soon. I also have a downhaul attached at the mast end of the boom. the photos show an eye attached with a block hanging the line runs from the base of the mast up to the block and back down to a cam cleat. I have no idea where this rig came from or who put it there. It was there when I bought the boat.

Another photo for reference...

The attached photo may help. I have the eye on the booms neck as well and the vang is shown. Let me know if you need picture sent with higher resolution or if this helped. Tor
