Hi:

I am in the process of replacing all the inside cushions/covers of my 1981 O'Day 25. I talked to a company online "JSI" and they said they have a pattern for a cushions that they made for a 1978 O'Day 25. I think the lay out and sizes of the interior of the boat didn't change between 1978 and 1981, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know?

Thanks,
David

I don't think the design changed during that period, although I can't remember for sure. I think I have seen the pull out double berth built on both the port and starboard sides. Can ask this company to provide you with the rough dimensions and to verify which side has the slide out double? Also, please share the contact info for this company; I would be interested in getting a quote for new cushions for my Oday 23.

On the 25, the pull-out berth was on the port side only. That was standard starting with 1979 model (doesn't seem to even be an option prior to that). I think that the size of the settee on the port side would be the same for the entire production run of the 25, just that the 1979 and later would have a set of extra cushions to fill in the gap created when you slide the berth out to make it a double?

O'Day 25 Layout

There was also a change in 1979 in the port quater berth cushion. On the 1978 25 this cushion was basically straight along both longitudinal edges. In 1979 the cushion, and the edge of the interior longitudinal side was flared out towards the forward end to make access to the quarter berth easier.

In the attached picture you can see the quarter berth of my 1978 O'Day 25. In later models the edge of the galley by the cooler was angled out and the cushion was cut wider to correspond.

Re: O'Day 25 Layout

Guys:
Thank you so much. This was really helpful and it explains why JSI didn't seem to have the filler cushion for the extended berth as part of the template they have. The answer is that there was no filler cushion need for a 1978 O'Day 25. She did mention the quarter berth coming in two different shapes (and now I know the reason for that as well).

Here is the web site http://www.newjsi.com/cushions.aspx. Jane has been helping me. So far they have been the chapest even including freight charges.

slide out birth on 25

Steve (or anybody else with such a creature),
Do you have the slide out birth? I'd love to see a photo of how that is anchored. I've seen a few home enginered versions. I'm thinking about "converting" my '76.

Thanks,
Mike

Slide Out Berth on O'Day 25

Mike, sorry, my 1978 doesn't have the slide out berth. Like you I've thought about a conversion but I've never taken the first step.

Guys,

Several years ago some guy made a set up to have a double berth in a 25 on this forum. Check the archieves and owner modifications, Captain Herring made special efforts to save such documentation.

For comparison, here is a similar view from the 1979 Brochure, and a plan view also from the 1979 brochure. Also, the plan view from the 1978 Brochure (hard to see the change, but it does show). I think the aft end slide-out berth was supported by the "box" that replaced the companionway steps on the earlier models, and there was a wooden track to support the forward end (attached to the main bulkhead). It is visable in the pic of the main bulkhead that I posted below from a series of pics that I found somewhere.
