You'll probably want a long shaft then.Mount is fixed.
With a Displacement hull sailboat, when under power the water will ride up to meet the bottom of the transom, so that is not a factor except at very slow, idle speeds, and even then, it may only be a problem if you have someone up at the bow which will slightly lift the stern up. The O'DAY 240 has a fixed-height outboard mount, located starboard-side, that would be a good walk-thru if the outboard were not there. A long-shaft (20") was recommended by O'DAY, a X-Long-shaft (25") is not too long, although I would think that 99% of the time, the 20" shaft will be OK.The challenge is that some boat builders put a rocker shape on their hulls. This sets the transom high out of the water. You want to examine your boat before you buy the outboard.
