I just picked-up a trailer for my O'day 23 and know it needs some retrofitting to work. What kind of suggestions do you all have for the trailer shown. I'm considering doing away with the profile and welding another pair of stands. Would bunks be easier, considering the size of the boat? I'm trying to be open minded about the project. Aloha!

The Trailer
Looks like whoever owned it had a boat loaded and launched with a lift. It also looks a little small for the "23" to be hauled over the road. I would definitely install beds and a plank or something to rest the keel on. I am also on Lake Champlain. Drop me a line at rovan99@nycap.rr.com

I bought a 23 oday last summer that came with a single axel trailer. Well let me tell you I have towed many things all across the country and the 20 miles I towed the 23 from the sellers house to mine was the scariest drive I have ever had in my life. What have I learned? Watch the tongue weight, dont even consider pulling this boat on a single axle, adjustment of in my case support arms to steady the boat from side to side are incrediable important, and you can't put on enough heavy duty straps on the boat to move it. I would be happy to send you a picture of my trailer as it sits empty in my yard. I changed the single axel to a tamden axel. Tandem wheels will take most bumps without bouncing and shaking the boat too much. Upped everything on the trailer to 7,000 pounds, adjusted everything to ballance the boat better and added many more heavy duty straps. From what I could gather from this forum most of the weight meaning 90% or so should rest on the keel. I have rollers along the full length of my keel to support the weight. It cost me about 2000 dollars I dont even want to think about how many hours and lots of cold ones for my freinds that helped me out. Don't underestimate the danger of towing this boat and take every precaution. Like I said earlier I would be happy to send a picture if you request. Fair Winds Scott

Good morning, Just my 2 cents, I do not think I would tow a 23 on the road with a single trailer, the boat will take over the trailer and you will be all over the road. But as a yard trailer to go from the crane (launch ramp) to your dry spot it would be lite & perfect. a.

First of all, thanks for all of your feedback, guys. It's much appreciated. It looks like we're going the bunk route. Anyone willing to share some trailer measurements to get me in the ballpark? I need to know the following: Length of bunks Width of bunks at the forward, middle, and aft points The bunk heights at these three points in relation to where the keel sits (sole) on the trailer. And, finally, the distance from the front of the bunks to the center of the axles. Considering everyone's advice on a single axle trailer, I've decided to use the trailer as a "yard" trailer and store Fun Tickets at at a boatyard this year. Again, many thanks. Al
