Does anyone have a diagram or drawing showing a simple way to run the halyards back towards the cockpit on my 23 so single-handing will be easier? At first glance,it appears the original halyards are too short and would have to be replaced.

Probably true

Tim - Since your halyards were designed to stop at the mast, they are almost certainly too short and will need replacing. As far as running rigging, its just a matter of looking at the deck for a fair lead, then installing blocks to make it happen. Typically, the main halyard, jib halyard, jib down haul (or furling line if so equipped), outhaul and reefing lines come aft. If this is too much for the space available, I'd pick halyard, and reefing line first, then figure out the rest. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Yes, the halyards are too short to be led aft, so new ones will be needed. I also recomend an auto pilot and a set of spinlocks.
