The best way to tension your stays is with a tension gauge. You need to know the thickness of your stays. Then, going by chart on the gauge that corresponds to the thickness of your stays, you need to pick a number out of a range of three or four numbers for your outer stays, plus the fore stay and back stay. Then you should tension your inner stays a little less. I use a Loos Gauge for my stays. They're kind of pricey but they do the job. The good thing about using a tension gauge is; if you have the same tension numbers, it stands to reason that your mast is going to be straight. I would pick a number on the gauge which is the lowest tension in the range for the thickness of your stays and go with that.

Thank you. I do have a Loos gauge, but have been guessing on proper settings. I currently have my uppers set at 27 and my lowers at 25 (1/8" cable). Next time I am out, I'll need to see what's at the bottom of the scale.

Thanks again

I think that my upper stays are set at 15. My side chain plates are O'Day 25 chain plates. I could tension the stays higher, but this is the number that I have stuck with. My inner stays and fore stay are 5/32". If you have 1/8" stays all the way around, you should stick with that. A whole lot of problems can be created by going to heavier stays. I found that out the hard way. Good luck!
