I'm trying to understand if my Catalina22 swing keel trailor with bunks will accomodate an O'Day 23 with integral shoal keel. I believe it can but I'd like to know how far down the keel protrudes from the "shape" of the hull. I believe it is only a matter of 10 or 12 inches?

Paul,
Have you checked the GVWR of your trailer? The O'Day 23 is a little heavier than the Catalina 22. The Catalina 22 goes about 2250 Lbs and the O'Day 23 weighs 3,085 lbs. If your trailer can take that weight, you're in like Flynn. I'm trailering my 1986 O'Day 222 with a Long Mfg tandem Aluminum flat bunk trailer that's good for 4600 lbs and it will take a 23' boat. I have 24" extension brackets for my bunks.

I'd be concerned that the O'DAY 23 weighs more than the Catalina 22. I have attached 3 pictures of an O'DAY 23 sitting on a trailer (I assume you are looking at a 1977-85 model?). This should give at least an approximation of how far the fin sticks down below the "freebody draft" of the boat (Freebody draft is the yacht-designer term for the draft of the hull alone on a keel vessel).
