Argh- I am going to order a new main sheet, but I left it at the boat. What size is the line, folks?

Thanks!

Have you emailed Rudy at D&R Marine? He just sent me the measurements for my boat.

I can't find his email, but this one should work for you. You could call as well, (508) 644-3001

You got an email response from Rudy? Amazing. I can only get him by phone.

The Main Sheet on my 222 is 3/8" Tro red braid and it is 42' long according to my manual. My boom vang is the same diameter but it has a longer line on it. There is one thing I like about dealing with Rudy. He knows the sizes and the lengths for different boats. To me this is very important. One year, I went down to Worst Marine and bought two 1/2" halyards to replace my main and Jib halyards without even thinking. I spliced them up for the shackles myself and used them. I had problems getting my sails up and down and come to find out that these halyards should have been 5/16".
When I finally decided to change them, I brought them down to Rudy and he told me that they were the wrong size for my mast. So I bought two new 5/16" halyards off him and used my old halyards which were like new, to replace my Gennie sheets.
I've found that his prices on halyards were better than the big boat store prices anyway. Not only that, but he'll make sure that you'll get the right diameter and lengths of the lines for your specific boat model. I wish I had a buck for every time I screwed up and bought the wrong thing. This only shows to go ya'. We learn by our screw ups.

Regardless of what the original equipment was on the boat or what Rudy recommends as appropriate, the size of the replacment line you use will be completely dependent on the size of the blocks in your existing main sheet tackle. I know the main sheet tackle on my boat is not what came with the boat originally (the PO changed it before I came along); this could be the case with your boat too.l

Mine's all original.
I know it's a good idea to do stuff with Rudy, but I also have a place in Central Indiana that I want to support too. It's the only sailing supplier within 100 miles and I like to send them business when it's something as generic as a main sheet.

the main sheet of the 23 should be very close to the 25. I've got a spec sheet for the 25that was posted here a while back. Too bad it has low resolution and is barely readable. The 25 main sheet is listed as 3/8 x 40'. Don't get it any shorter.

I just ordered all my running rigging from Knothead on SailNet. He's the man! Came in way lower than I expected it would be! They are down in Florida. I can put you in touch with them if you like.

Knothead is the dude- he helped me learn how to do a constant diameter splice for my furler. No one within 500 miles knew how, so I had to do it myself and without his help I'd have been toast.

Awesome!

I gave three different companies a chance at quoting my rigging and he was the only one that followed through!
