I just bought a oday 23 1973. looking at the odayowners website it looks like a oday 22 layout.. Is that possible? That year was it the same layout just a bigger boat or did i buy a oday22. Not that it matters now, but when looking for spare parts i would like to know. Does anyone know if they made a stern rear guard , like the one that goes on the bow of the boat? Does anyone have a copy of an owners manual or where i can get one ? Thanks for your help clif

O'DAY 22 OR 23

I have had both models in the past. I hope I can remember the differences. My 22 had a table that was on a post. You stowed it out of the way. The 23 had a table that dropped down from a bulkhead. There were other differences but I think that would describe the obvious differences.

re: oday 23 layot

can't answer your question on 22 vs 23 layout, but i've got a 23 of about the same vintage as yours and could photocopy the relevant parts of the owners manual if that would help. email me at buddy@gtii.com if that would be helpful.

The 23 changed a lot

There were at least three different versions of the Oday 23. Check out the Unofficial Oday Website (listed in the links section of this site). It has a very interesting and detailed history of the model. I know that when I was looking to buy one, I came across an older ('73 I think) pop-top model. The salon table was on a post, and the centerboard was raised with a crank that was mounted on that post. Now that you mention it, the interior did look more like a later model 22 than the later 23. I think the lines of the hull on all models of the 23 were identical. I do recall that the older 23 I saw had an cutout in the transom to accomodate an outboard, as opposed to an exterior engine mount on the later models. One thing for sure, I saw about 6 Oday 23's before I found the one I bought, and only two of them were identical. As to wether you can buy a stern rail, according to the old brochures, it was an option on the 23, but apparently not a popular one. I never saw one built later than '79 that had one. Since Oday is long out of business, your best bet is to check with Rudy at D and R Marine (website also listed in links section) to see if he carries them. If not, you can see if a Catalina or other current manufacturer's existing replacement parts fit. Otherwise, you are looking at a custom marine fabrication job. Rudy also has the "owner's manual", which is really just a two-sided sheet of 11x17 paper.

Re: Stern Rail

My 84 has a stern rail. It was a factory installed option. Regards, John

Difference between the Oday 23 and 22

I have a 1974 Oday 23 pop-top which I have been sailing for the last 21 years. The way I tell the 23 from the 22 at a distance is by looking at the transom. The 22 transom is raked forward, the 23 has a straight transom. The 1973 23 had a transom cutout for the outboard the 1974 does not. The other major change in 1974 was the smaller pop-top. The earlier models raised the entire cabin top with a winch. In 1974 they made the pop-top smaller and it is raised by hand. My table is mounted to the pipe that contains the winch handle that raises and lowers the board.
