I am currently looking at purchasing an ODay 23. The current owner believes that the boat has a 4 ft keel with a 2 ft drop centerboard. In looking at other ODay 23 models, I have only seen this boat with a 2ft keel and centerboard. I am interested to find out if anyone would know is the 23 was made with a 4ft keel. The particular model is currently in the water and I am unable to tell the depth. Thank you.

Oday 23

Neil, The information I have seen indicates a draft of 2' 3" with the board up, 5' 4" with the board down. Anyone else know of varriations? Justin - O'day Owners' Web

draft on O'Day 23

I looked at at least five 23's (out of the water) before I bought mine ('79), and all of them which ranged from a '71 through a '82 model had what looked to be the same draft specs that Justin quoted to you. The pivot pin for the centerboard on the '71 was mounted through the keel, rather than internal as on the later models, and was controlled by a crank set in the dinette post, not a free line through the bridge deck as on the later models. I have also seen other older and newer 23's in boatyards, and they all seem to have the same below-water configuration. Remember, the boat was designed and marketed as a trailer sailer, so a four foot keel would defeat the purpose. On the other hand, Catalina made a bunch of Catalina 22's with a fixed fin keel of about four foot draft. Go figure. I would bet that your prospective boat is really a standard configuration.
