O'Day 222 Spinnaker Pole Length

A virtually brand new symetrical spinnaker came with my boat. Unfortunately it also only had a "whisker pole". I'd like to set up the spinnaker gear correctly so I'm getting/building a spinnaker pole. I've seen that the pole length should be pretty much equal to the "J" measurement, which for the 222 is published as 7.75 ft.

Could any of you other 222 owners, using a spinnaker, give me an actual measurement for your spinnaker pole? Any other information/suggestions for other parts of the spinnaker pole control rigging would be appreciated too.

Thanks,

Dale

The actual overall length of any spin pole depends on to the type of ends. The key measurement: from inside jaw to inside jaw should exactly equal your J.

Jackdaw - Thanks for confirming use of the "J" measurement, and how to apply it to the pole construction. I plan on making a 1 1/2" pole with piston style ends.

Sorry, Dale, I only have an asym for my 192. Flew it Sunday for the first time this season, after moving the halyard to 6" above the hounds, and adding a swiveling cam cleat to the mast above the jib halyard cleat. Much easier on the takedown with the cam cleat, as opposed to the horn cleat above the gooseneck.

Seems nowadays, most cruisers would rather "tack" downwind with an asym than use a symmetrical for deeper angles.

Jackdaw -- If you could, check your regular email. I sent a couple of other question regarding the spinnaker track to via email but I think your "junk" filter may have captured them.

Thanks,
