I noticed today that the floor under the compression post has sagged. It has pulled away slightly from the bulkhead. Has anyone done this repair. I assume there is a block between the hull and floor and you have to cut something to get to it. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks.

Could you take some pictures of it and post them?

Could you take some pictures of it and post them here? Does your boat have a tension bar inside the cabin like mine?

My boat is a 1988 and has that brace. I am not at the boat and have no pictures, even if I did , I wouldn't know how to post them. Where the post sits on the floor, the fiberglass floor has sunken in, I can stick my finger between the floor and the botom of the bulkhead right beside the post. I would think there would have to be some kind of support under the floor to support the post. I would think it is built similar to other Odays, I was thinking of cutting an access hole just in front of the post, maybe I could get to and remove the old support( wood?) and replace it with something more durable. I just don't know how the floor or inner liner is supported.

I think that what I would do is remove the galley cabinet and cut a hole in the sole for a deck plate in the storage cabinet area behind the small door. That whole cabinet is easy to remove and it will give you the room needed to get at that area. Later on after you've corrected the problem, you can always install the deck plate and it won't be seen in the cabinet.

I was thinking of going in front of the post, I didn't think of removing the cabinet. That would actually give more working room. I could make a false bottom in the cabinet that could be removed to keep an eye on things. I just replaced all the standing rigging and added a rear chain plate on the other side of the rudder. I had Ruddy make up two of the short tail peices so now the back stay and mainsheet are on the center line of the boat. Since the new rigging, all sailing has been done in 15 to 30 knts of wind. The rigging has passed all test, but I guess the floor under the compression post wasn't up to the task. A never ending cycle. Thanks for your help.

That's not a bad idea either. You can make a secret compartment out of it to hide your wallet or keys when you leave your boat at anchor to go swimming or something. I often do that myself. Good luck with that, John.
